Over 40 years ago, a young man stood in a bicycle shop. He didn't know what the future would hold, but he had a dream and determination. Following in the footsteps of his entrepreneurial mother, Baron Stewart formed the concept of his own hardware store in 1970, and by 1973, Stewart's Hardware Ltd. was incorporated.

From the beginning, the company faced competition from established hardware dealers such as Storks de Roux, Reid’s and Son, Baugh Brothers, and Shagoury’s. But young Stewart was not intimidated. His first major break came when R. O. Terrier, Member of the House of

Representatives (MHR) for Clarendon subdivided a portion of land as a housing estate for low and lower middle-income persons. Stewart's Hardware took off by selling hardware items to these individuals.

Stewart continued to build alliances, and the business flourished.In 1990, the business was doing so well that Stewart was able to open a new branch of Stewart's Hardware in Lionel Town. By 1996, he opened a third location—this time in Mocho, which he later closed and moved to Old Harbour.

Today, the company has five active stores, located in May Pen, Mandeville, Lionel Town, Old Harbour and Longville Park.

Stewart's Hardware owes much of its success to the great relationships it builds and maintains with its employees and customers. It is and will always be the place ‘where the price is right and the customer comes first’.
