The Grade one cook is responsible for preparing food items according to standardized menu and recipes. He or she is also required to provide assistance in; training new hires, maintaining food quality and health and safety standards. 

Responsibilities

• Prepare food items according to production schedule, designated recipes and quality standards
• Prepare ingredients for cooking, including portioning, chopping, and storing food
• Weigh, measure, mix and prep ingredients according to recipes
• Set-up and break down work station
• Prepare, maintain and monitor quality control for all food items.
• Prepare guest orders in a friendly, timely and efficient manner
• Visually inspect all food sent from the kitchen and ensure plates are clean and appetizing
• Maintain a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene of your work area and equipment
• Practice correct food handling and food storage procedures according to local and company regulations
• Test food items to determine if they are cooked to required standard
• Maintain inventory and food stock levels
• Assist in assigning work duties to staff members
• Serve food in proper portions onto proper receptacles
• Check and ensure the correctness of the temperature of appliances and food
• Act as an expeditor by ensuring that all orders are completed and the wait staff advised.
• Maintain food logs
• Assist in conducting food quality inspections.
• Assist with on the job training for new hires and current employees.
• Assist in compiling requisitions for food items needed
• Assist in monitoring and controlling food portions
• Any other duties assigned 

Skills
Excellent knife handling skills
Knowledge of common cuts
Ability to use kitchen appliances and small wares
Ability to read and follow recipes
Ability to trim and portion meat poultry and seafood
Ability to lift you to fifty pounds
