The Tony Thwaites Wing at the University Hospital of the West Indies is a 54 bed private facility with more than 20 years of experience in providing superior healthcare delivered by the highly qualified and experienced medical, nursing and technical staff of the UHWI.
The Tony Thwaites Wing Operating Theatre Suite is a state-of the-art surgical centre with the most technologically advanced medical equipment. This allows surgical teams to use minimally invasive techniques including: endoscopic, laparoscopic and arthroscopic procedures which allow faster inpatient recovery time and same-day outpatient surgeries. The operating theatre and recovery room staff have extensive experience in coordinating pre and post-operative care and support.

Specialized Nursing Staff
The nurses at the Tony Thwaites Wing are highly trained and certified in various specialty areas; including ICU, Operating Theatre, Midwifery, Public Health and Endoscopy, all of which meet international nursing standards. All nurses are annually certified in Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support.
Many of the nurses assigned to the Wing have been delivering best-in-class patient care for more than 10 years, and boast consistently high quality of care and a warm, friendly smile. The nurses are supported by patient care assistants who are actively involved in helping patients with their activities of daily living while in the hospital.
Private nurses and patient sitters are available on request.
Ancillary Staff
The ancillary members of a patient’s medical team are vital to the delivering comprehensive healthcare. At Tony Thwaites Wing, they provide support for patients through physiotherapy and rehabilitation services, diagnostic imaging, laboratory and in-hospital pharmacy services.
