Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinates and performs standards development and promulgation activities as assigned.
- Participates in and provides support for commemoration activities, e.g. World Standards Day.
- Conducts academic research to inform the standards development process
- Prepares reports on activities in accordance with established guidelines or as required.
- Serves as national coordinator or focal point representative for international and regional standards development activities.
- Participates in the marketing, education and public relations activities of the BSJ.
- Plans and implements activities for the National Quality Awards Programme as assigned.
- Provides technical support to stakeholders as required.
- Prepares notification on standards, technical regulations and conformity assessment as required.
- Participates in training and other knowledge transfer activities.
- Prepares and delivers presentations at internal and external fora.
- Participates in the implementation and maintenance of the organization’s Quality and Environmental Management System (QEMS), e.g. implementation of ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.
- Represents the BSJ and/or Jamaica at various national, regional and international fora.
Minimum Educational Requirements:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in the Natural Sciences or a related discipline from an accredited institution
- Training in auditing Food Safety and Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001, ISO 22000, etc.) would be an asset
- Computer literacy in Microsoft Office Suite
Experience:
- Two (2) years work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree in the Natural Sciences OR
- Four (4) years work experience in a scientific organization with a Bachelor’s Degree in a related discipline.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Comprehensive knowledge of food processing techniques
- Comprehensive knowledge of quality management systems such ISO 9001
- Working knowledge of the auditing of quality management systems
- Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
- Strong research and report-writing skills
- Work with minimal supervision
- Excellent planning, coordinating and organizing skills
- Working knowledge of Public Relations, Marketing and Sales
- Working knowledge of Data Management Systems
- Excellent customer service attitude
- Competent in the use of Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent meeting management, mediation and negotiation skills
- Excellent project management skills
- Good critical thinking, problem-solving and decision-making skills
