JOB PURPOSE

The Applications Support Officer will assist Senior Application Support Officer in assessing and determining IT infrastructure solutions to meet business goals and objectives of GER. This includes eliciting, analysing, documenting and managing the IT Infrastructure/Hardware requirements to support the business. The incumbent will also support on plan, coordinate, design and control activities of the IT department and incorporate best practices and policies. The Applications Support Officer will support users with any hardware related resolution, or any coordination needed with hardware provider. 

 

KEY OUTPUTS

  • Individual Work plan developed; 
  • Input provided to Department budget development; 
  • IT Infrastructure policies and procedures implemented; 
  • ICT infrastructure Risk assessment, disaster recovery, and business continuity strategies formulated and implemented. 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS

Management/Administrative Responsibilities 

  • Supports in the preparation of the annual operational plan for the department to support the achievement of the Regulator’s strategic objectives; 
  • Supports in management of the annual budget for the Department to support the achievement of the Department’s strategic objectives; takes corrective action where necessary to improve performance; 
  • Supports the implementation of operational policies for the Department in keeping with the strategic objectives of the Regulator; 
  • Represents the organisation, as appropriate, at various local, regional and international conventions, workshops and meetings on policy or regulatory matters. 

Technical/Professional Responsibilities 

  • Acts as a focal point for all request emulating pertaining to Hardware including those related to AMANDA system; 
  • Provides necessary in house support for users and take up required discussions with vendors for issue resolution;
  • Coordinates with vendors and various Hardware providers including eGov Jamaica Limited; 
  • Provides and coordinates for necessary hardware support services like bandwidth, UPS, LAN etc.; 
  • Ensures that the Hardware support provided to the internal stakeholders in a time bound manner; 
  • Provides support in the preparation of Policies, processes, and procedures for mitigating risks to information assets, personnel, facilities, and equipment; 
  • Advises on the technical specification, security and communication protocols of network devices to be connected to the LAN/WAN; 
  • Designs, develops and implements safe, effective and reliable communication solutions to the levels of services requested by our clients.

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Management Information System or equivalent; 
  • At least 4 years’ experience in similar environment.
