HEAD LIBRARIAN, PUBLIC SERVICES
The UWI Mona Library seeks a dynamic, innovative, and highly collaborative Librarian to lead the Public Services Unit. The successful candidate will provide vision and leadership in the development, management, and delivery of services to support the teaching, learning and research of the University community. He/she will work closely with the Deputy Librarian in charge of Public Services & Outreach Services, and Special Projects, the Coordinator of the Mona Information Literacy Unit (MILU) and engage with Heads of Branches to manage the daily operations of the Library’s Public Services.
The successful candidate will be required to:
- Lead in the development and execution of Library policies and procedures based upon current and emerging trends in academic library operations
- Work with Heads of Branches and Sections to create and support the execution of traditional and cutting-edge services designed to meet the current and future needs of patrons and advance the strategic objectives of the Library
- Have primary responsibility for developing projects, activities and new initiatives in Public Services
- Set strategic goals and directions for Public Services
- Lead in the development of collaborative Campus partnerships with units, e.g. the Department of Library and Information Studies (DLIS), and Mona Office of Research and Innovation (MORI)
- Manage and provide leadership for all staff of the Section including setting and discussing strategic annual targets for staff and conducting annual appraisals
- Coordinate the development of a comprehensive marketing, advocacy and outreach programme
- Deliver information literacy sessions and coordinate the Liaison Librarians programme
Essential Qualification(s) and Experience
- A Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an accredited university
- Five years’ experience working in an Academic Library, with three or more years’ experience in a management position
- He/She must demonstrate a commitment to research and scholarship
- Working knowledge of Library Information Systems such as ALEPH
