Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Health

Key Responsibilities:
- Making routine visits to food service and processing facilities, bars and other retail food establishments to determine that foods are properly handled, stored and refrigerated.
- Inspecting schools, nursing homes, hotels, barber-shops and other service establishments and dwellings for compliance with standard sanitation practices and public health laws.
- Investigating reports and complaints of insanitary conditions, or contaminated food or water and initiates action for control, eradication or disposal.
- Discussing local public health problems with relevant authorities and supplies information and advice on public and private water supply, sewage and refuse disposal.
- Promoting public and environmental health programmes; distributes literature on sanitation and environmental health hazards, gives lectures to students and civic groups; interprets regulations.
- Conducting investigations into communicable, food and meat borne diseases; and reports to relevant authorities for remedial action; compiles reports and statistics.
- Inspecting meat and issuing certification for sale to consumers.
- Participating in immunization and spraying and eradication campaigns in outbreaks of epidemics and disasters.
- Enforcing public health regulations by serving notices and instituting prosecutions.
- Preparing and submitting weekly and monthly reports.
- Conducting surveys in communities and implement programmes to address public health issues.
- Participating in the control of pandemics, epidemics and disasters.
- Supervising vector control workers, environmental health workers and National Youth Service (NYS) workers.
- Promoting sanitation education and interest in improve health standards.
