Job Purpose

The Senior Counsellor is responsible for leadership in the administration, planning, implementation, and evaluation of counselling services to students, faculty and staff members to promote personal development and psychological well-being, and include individual and group counselling, outreach programming, training, consultation, crisis intervention and assessment. He/She will also act as a consultant to the university on matters related to mental health and informs such policies and activities which support and maintain the mental health rights and safety of all university stakeholders. 

 

Academic Requirements:

The preferred applicant should possess: 

  • • Master's Degree in Clinical Psychology, Counselling, or other related discipline, with specialization in Counselling. 
  • Registered and licensed with the Council of Professions Supplementary to Medicine (desirable) 

Additional Requirements: 

The applicants should also have: 

  • Knowledge of the Utech, Ja. Act, Ordinances, Policies, Regulations, and other source material. 
  • Sound knowledge of the University of Technology, Jamaica Act, 1999, Policies, Procedures, Rules, Regulations and Ordinances. 
  • Knowledge of individual and group counselling, conducting clinical consultation and debriefing sessions. 
  • Knowledge of case management. 
  • Knowledge of professional consultation and promotion of services. 
  • Knowledge of academic and student services policies, procedures of the University. 
  • Knowledge of psychological assessments, test administration, scoring and interpretation. 
  • Knowledge of legal and ethical issues related to clients' rights. 
  • Knowledge of providing intake services and mental health crisis intervention. 
  • Three (3) years' experience in a similar position, ideally in a higher education institution.
